Frequently asked questions
Wigs, like many other products, possess varying lifespans determined by factors such as their quality, maintenance, and frequency of use. It is essential to recognize that not all human hair wigs are crafted equally. Some wigs labeled as human hair, falling within a price range of $70 to $1500, may only endure for about six months due to extensive hair processing and construction. At Serenity Wig Salon, we take pride in offering exclusively high-quality wigs, most of which are made from virgin hair and meticulously handcrafted. The superior nature of these wigs typically grants them a lifespan of 2 to 7 years, contingent upon the quality of the hair and the diligent care they receive. Moreover, proper care entails appropriate washing techniques, brushing methods, and other essential practices. Understanding and implementing these proper care measures can significantly impact the longevity of your wig.
Below we have outlined a short guide detailing every step of how to care for your high quality wig!
Storage:
Before storing your wig, gently brush out any tangles or knots using a wide-toothed comb or a wig brush.
Avoid exposing your wig to direct sunlight or excessive heat, as this can cause damage to the hair fibers.
Place the wig on a wig stand or a wig head to maintain its shape and prevent tangling.
If you don't have a wig stand, you can also use a clean and dry towel to wrap the wig around, ensuring it is protected.
Washing:
Wet the hair completely in the sink or shower.
Apply an appropriate amount of shampoo on with wig and inside the cap based on the hair thickness and length (enough to suds throughout the whole thing).
Massage the wig gently in a downward motion.
Rinse the wig thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining shampoo.
Apply a small amount of wig conditioner, focusing on the mid-lengths to ends. Avoid applying conditioner to the lace or wig cap.
Rinse the wig once again to remove the conditioner.
Drying:
Gently squeeze out excess water from the wig, taking care not to twist or wring it.
Place the wig on a towel and blot any remaining moisture. Do not rub the hair vigorously.
Allow the wig to air dry on a wig stand or wig head. Avoid using a hairdryer or exposing it to direct heat sources.
Once the wig is completely dry, you can style it as desired using wig-friendly styling tools.
With proper storage and regular washing, your lace top virgin hair wig will maintain its beauty and longevity.
This is great question that we get all the time. We only sell high quality 100% human hair wigs at Serenity Wig Salon. There are different ways to classify the quality of a wig or hair piece.
To have a decent hair piece the baseline of quality is that the hair must be "remy." What is remy hair?Remy hair is a term used to describe human hair that is collected in a specific way to maintain its natural cuticle alignment. The cuticle is the outermost layer of the hair shaft, consisting of tiny scales that overlap like roof shingles. When the cuticles are aligned in the same direction from root to tip, it is known as Remy hair. During the collection process, the hair is carefully cut from a single donor and kept in a way that ensures all the hair strands follow the same direction as they did when growing on the donor's head. When the cuticles are all facing the same direction, the hair remains smooth, and less prone to damage and tangles.
The next way to classify hair quality is by the amount of chemical processing that has been done to it. Cheaper wigs are often made using chemically processed hair, which is hair that has undergone various chemical treatments to alter its natural state and appearance. This hair is commonly sourced from multiple donors and may not be carefully collected to maintain the cuticle alignment, resulting in hair that tangles easily and lacks the softness and durability of high-quality wigs.
To address the issues caused by chemical processing, these cheap wigs are coated in silicone to give the hair a temporary soft and smooth feel. Silicone creates a glossy, silky texture on the surface of the hair, making the wig appear more appealing to potential buyers. However, this coating is not a permanent solution and will eventually wash off after a few months of use or after a few washes.
Another reason hair quality matters is unfortunately for moral reasons. The sad reality is a lot of hair found at lower price point is not only not as good quality, but obtained from nefarious sources. Here are a few of the less desirable ways hair is sourced:
Hair Theft: In some cases, hair can be stolen from individuals without their knowledge or consent. Thieves may cut off hair from women or children in vulnerable situations, taking advantage of their circumstances.
Exploitative Practices: In certain regions, people may be coerced or deceived into selling their hair at extremely low prices, often far below its actual value. This exploitation can occur due to poverty, lack of awareness about fair market value, or unscrupulous intermediaries.
Unethical Collection: Hair can be sourced from unethical suppliers who do not adhere to fair trade practices or respect the rights and well-being of donors. This can involve dishonest practices in acquiring hair, leading to human rights abuses.
The disclosure of these hair collection practices to the buyer is not mandatory, yet a reputable salesperson should readily convey the origin of the hair and provide assurance regarding fair compensation to the donors. Transparency in sourcing becomes an essential hallmark of ethical wig commerce, ensuring that purchasers are empowered with reliable information and can make informed decisions.
